DESCRIPTION: APW - Hamilton, Grade 992 marked "Special," 21J, 16S, nickel OF display recase with Illinois Watch Co. marked bezels, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, ornate two-tone gilt and nickel damascene, s#703660. A rare and very attractive watch, this example is highlighted by the superb preservation of its movement's two-tone color. This particular serial number is listed in the Hamilton factory ledger as having been sold on December 28th, 1907 to the Non-Retailing Co. of Lancaster, PA and is from a group of fifty consecutive serial numbers (703651 to 703700) listed as Special Finish movements and of which forty-eight were sold to Non Retailing Co..
CONDITION: Mvt: Ticking very sluggishly on a full wind, overhaul recommended, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, superb two-tone color, short fine scratch and small marring adjacent balance jewel setting screws, chattered fine to micro-fine scratch crossing left side of train bridge beginning at case screw position, two nearby pinpoint nicks to inner rim of train bridge, few micro-fine scratches elsewhere, oxide to regulator assembly, few tiny bits of oxide to winding wheels; fine hands, hour and seconds-hand are blue, minute hand is a black colored replacement, seconds-hand with oxide; case shows very little wear, mar to lip of bezel near 2 creating a small sharp edge, excellent marking detail; tight bow, crown shows very little wear; glass crystals with different edge profiles, front with scattered fine scratches, rear with glue excess at its seat.
